What is GSR?
These are electrodes that measure the activity of the sweat glands. Since the activity of sweat glands is highest in the hands and feet, the electrodes are usually placed on the fingers. These electrodes send the signals to the machine. The electrodes are made of silver chloride and are very safe for coming in contact with the skin.
How is GSR helpful in mental illnesses?
GSR is used to measure the intensity of an emotion that is experienced by an individual. This is done by measuring the change in the sweat gland activity. When we experience emotional arousal like anxiety, the activity of the sweat glands changes. GSR measures the current activity of the sweat glands as a response to our emotional state.
